Losing the weight that you gained while you were pregnant is a very personal and unique thing for each woman. Every woman and every pregnancy is different. Of course, the biggest factor is how much weight was actually gained during the pregnancy. There will be a certain amount of this that you will automatically lose during the first few weeks after you give birth due to the weight of the baby and all the amniotic fluids. More weight will drop off the first couple of weeks while the uterus shrinks back down to its normal size.
After that it depends on your eating and exercise habits. If you are breastfeeding, it is good to have a little extra weight to help you keep your energy up.
Much of how fast the weight will come off will be based on genetics and there is not much you can do about that. If you began your pregnancy fairly healthy and not over weight and you adopt a reasonable, nutritious diet and exercise program you could be back to your pre-pregnancy weight within a few months.
