Why Your Post Pregnancy Health is Just as Important as Your New Baby’s

By Joanna | Oct 2, 2008

You want your baby to be healthy. That’s why you take him or her for things like checkups and vaccinations. If there’s a problem, you follow the orders that the doctor gave you and give the right medications.

What you might not realize, though, is that you have to keep yourself really healthy as well. You can’t take care of your baby in the best way possible if you’re sick, so you have to pay attention to how you’re doing and whether you’re keeping up with your health.

Moderate exercise, enough sleep, and eating right are all important, and they are some of the best and the easiest ways to protect yourself from harm so you can protect your baby, too.

This is something that the nurse really drilled into me at the hospital. If you need a moment, just put your baby in the crib where he is secure and go grab a bite to eat or step outside for a few minutes. But you do have to take care of yourself first, otherwise you’ll be a wreck and your baby will pick up on this.
